OOTD: Autumn Hats

Today I have two posts in one! I already had two outfits waiting to be posted and since they both involved hats I thought I may as well combine the two. Hats are a huge trend for this season, personally, I’m still obsessing over the crazy fluffy baker boy style hats Miu Miu sent down the catwalk for their A/W17 shows (if you’re not convinced, check out their shoot they did for LOVE Magazine with the Muppets, it’s incredible).

There are two main styles that have been cropping up everywhere lately, and that’s the beret and the baker boy. Being a daring young fashion victim I naturally have decided to try both of these hat trends, and thought I’d show you a little bit about how I styled both of them.

1. The Beret

OOTD: Layering Love Affair

22236077_1632328323501075_371948628_n

Returning to uni has meant a lot of things have changed recently, I’m getting a little bit less sleep, having to remember to eat three meals a day, and, unfortunately, it has also meant an unwelcome pause from any blogging activities as I attempt to readjust to uni life. Nevertheless, after being reunited with my favourite photographer pal (shoutout to Ellie) I finally managed to get some photos done for a post I’ve had in the works for a while.

Layering can be tricky, but I’ve learnt that the key is not to overthink. Layered over a t shirt or even a polo neck, you can wear your favourite summer tops right into winter. This satin organza top from New Look has been one of my favourite ‘night out’ pieces recently, I have the matching skirt, choker and shoes! So, I thought, why not find a way to style it for daywear? This H&M T-shirt is one of my favourite tops for layering, the band tee style can make anything look more casual and edgy, it’s perfect paired with the girly style of the top. Slouchy boyfriend style jeans were the perfect match for the T-shirt, and I finished off the look with my favourite pair of Puma trainers.

Things I Need to Get Done Before I’m 20

essentials.png

Whenever people tell me I’m going to be 20 next year, I freak out. Older people, please don’t roll your eyes at me. The thought of not being a teenager makes me want to curl up into a little ball and cry, does this mean I can no longer collect little stuffed Disney toys just because I think they’re cute? Or play Sims 3 for 5 hours and have no regrets? Probably not, but either way it’s fair to say I’ll be sad to see the backside of my teenage years, they’ve been completely cringey, awkward, and at times quite sad but above all they’ve been utterly and astoundingly wonderful. Everything they should be.

At the age of nineteen, I’m lucky enough to say I’ve crossed quite a few things off of my bucket list already, even more so in the past year.. I’ve been to L.A., Paris, Rome Coachella, seen John Mayer in concert.. but I feel like I have a few more things I need to get done before I move on from my teenage years, hence the reason I thought this deserved a post. I haven’t done a post like this in a while so please excuse me if I start babbling, so, before I start doing just that, let’s get into it….

1. Learn to cook

I have the biggest love hate relationship with food – I love crap food and hate everything else! Since starting uni last year my biggest challenge has without a doubt been cooking. The most I’ve ever been able to cook is an omelette, which within itself is a bit of a struggle and sometimes gets a tad bit burnt to a crisp (or chargrilled if we want to use proper chef terms) . I’ve had my fair share of setting things on fire too which has been very traumatic and really put me off. I’m not saying I’m going to be the next Gordon Ramsay but I just want to eat less toast for dinner and order less takeaways this year, you know?

2. Have someone enjoy my posts on here who isn’t my mum

Blogging for me has always been something I’ve never been toooo super serious about, it’s just been a fun hobby. But since starting my Fashion Journalism course and meeting so many like-minded, wonderful people who love fashion as much as I do (shoutout to Team FJ if you’re reading!), I’ve felt so much more inspired to continue this journey and really put the work in to attempt to make it successful. I’ve been blogging since I was sixteen, and back then I definitely did not know half as much about my style or even myself as I thought I did, I still might not now! But if I can have at least one person read my post and enjoy it even the smallest bit, I feel like that’s an achievement. I only racked up the courage to start sharing my blog on my Instagram this year, and I have no regrets. Never be ashamed or scared of something that makes you happy, no one has the right to judge you!

3. Go on another girls holiday

IMG_1340

I have the most incredible memories from the past year, going to Ibiza, Sziget (in Budapest), L.A and Paris with some of my best girlfriends has been amazing! There’s honestly nothing better than going away with your girls and getting dressed up every night! This year I’m hoping to have enough money to go on a big girls holiday with my friends, I’d love to go back to Ibiza or Sziget and really explore a little bit more, we’re always talking about it.

4. Stay up all night

I realised the other day that I don’t think I’ve ever stayed up all night. I get tired by about 3pm on a normal day (about 9am if for some awful reason I haven’t had a coffee). Alcohol also makes me fall asleep after about 2 hours so this is a problem. I think this is going to require some planning.

Hope you enjoyed! I did think of some other things like go to Tokyo, visit every Disneyland in the world etc. but I think these things are going to take me waaaaay longer than a year so I’ll save those. Let me know what you want to do before you turn 20 in the comments, or if you’re already 20 what you want to do IN GENERAL. okay. Thanks for reading!

OOTD: An Evening in Bristol

f

20562132_1568543603212881_870659725_n

Another summer mini break crossed off the list, this time it was a trip to Bristol to see family, and it literally lasted less than 24 hours…

We stayed at the Premier Inn, which despite its quite shocking lack of biscuits in the room, provided a very decent breakfast buffet and had a Starbucks, this, of course, made for a happy Phoeb. We went to Valentino’s in Bristol and had a lovely big family meal, my family don’t come together all too often, so when we do it’s really nice!

For my outfit I went for this off the shoulder shirt from New Look which I feel like I’ve seen in just about every fashion magazine this year, and my leather trousers from Cheap Monday which I got in the sale for £20. I have to admit I made a complete fashion no-no with this outfit by mixing silver and gold, I know, shock horror. Usually my overpacking would’ve saved me from such an issue, assuring that I would’ve had a bag with silver hardware and some silver jewellery to go with my shoes, but I tried so hard not to overpack for this trip! Hence, why I have gold necklaces on with silver shoes, my idea of a nightmare! Hopefully you don’t hate me as much as I hate myself…

OOTD: Birthday Suit

20561911_1570232226377352_1909209352_n

I’m nineteen! As sad as I am to be only one year away from not being a teenager anymore, I’m so excited for what nineteen has to offer, although I have to say, looking back at the last year of my life it has some pretty big boots to fill! As has become tradition, I spent the day in Brighton with my friends, eating cake, drinking Pimms and of course, taking lots of photos.

My outfit was of course mainly pink as you can see, but the main thing I reeeaaallly want to speak about are my earrings. I’m OBSESSED with them. I found them in Lovisa and fell in love, the moment I saw them I envisioned them with a low, sleek ponytail (as seen above) and a grey bodycon dress for when I’m going out. They were the perfect detail for my birthday outfit, pink and grey is one of my most favourite colour combinations. I also got to rock my new Topshop sale bargains, these beautiful satin pink creeper/trainer type things were only £10!

White Jeans: Styled 4 Ways

White jeans are a wardrobe essential for summer, what better way to transition your denim from spring to summer? White denim can be a bit trickier to style than blue denim, it’s not quite the same as being able to throw on an oversized t-shirt with your old mid-blue boyfriend jeans and having it look perfectly put together. Certain colours can look harsh against white denim, and other pieces can look tacky if styled the wrong way (no neon pink heels please!). I’ve put together 4 different outfits to show the versatility that white denim jeans can offer, even simple skinny ones like my off-white Topshop Leigh jeans that I got a few years ago (on sale!) and have worn over and over again every summer since.

1. Casual/edgy

20503815_1568409619892946_96833356_n

20504280_1568409556559619_467231626_n20496577_1568409559892952_1418981253_n

T-shirt – H&M

Bag – Zara

Jeans – Topshop

Shoes – Topshop

This is a great example of how you can incorporate white denim into a casual outfit, and still make it look really cool. How perfect is the Zara bag? I got it for £12.99 in the sale, it’s so beautiful, and has changeable straps!

2. Vintage

20503957_1568409663226275_1179402206_n20562128_1568409773226264_809807820_n20370571_1568409709892937_794409432_n

Headband – River Island

Dress (worn as shirt) – vintage

Jeans – Topshop

Heels – Marks & Spencer

I love pretending I’m from the 60’s. It’s a hobby of mine. This vintage dress looks so adorable as a shirt tucked into jeans, Twiggy vibes anyone? The heels are also probably my most favourite pair in my collection, they’re surprisingly easy to mix with other patterns and can make any outfit look so stylish.

3. Going out out

20496480_1568411836559391_404645078_n20527233_1568409436559631_312562455_n

20504220_1568411739892734_1355870422_n

Top – Boohoo

Bag – Zara

Jeans – Topshop

Shoes – Topshop

Wearing all white is a perfect look for going out in summer, the bag adds just the right amount of colour, and along with the silver shoes, allows for just the right amount of break in the white. These shoes are great as they add height but aren’t too hard to walk in!

4. All pastel, all day

20526597_1568412266559348_1825171751_n20134402_1568412163226025_1662987098_n

20504023_1568409413226300_1866183307_n

Top – Primark

Jeans – Topshop

Shoes – Topshop

All pastel outfits are basically what I live for. I love the shoes, another Topshop sale bargain! I tied a knot in the t-shirt to crop it as it was just a little bit too long, I’ve been loving doing this with all of my tops lately, it just adds a little extra oomph.

OOTD: How To Stay Interesting Within The Confines of A Dress Code

IMG_5235

As someone who is usually almost completely opposed to all black outfits in their own daily life, dress codes to me have always been something I struggled with (I know right first world problems). The complete boredom of having to wear the same thing day in, day out, if you’re already doing a job you’re not really passionate about, it only makes it harder to be enthusiastic.

However, I think I have discovered the key to not boring myself to death when it comes to dressing for work. As long as I mix it up so that I’m not wearing a black pencil skirt and lace top every single day, push the boundaries ever so slightly, and not be afraid of putting together things I wouldn’t usually imagine wearing, I’ve found I can survive within the confines of an all black wardrobe. I’m lucky enough to have a pretty lenient dress code working in retail, as opposed to an office job, so I’ve learned what tends to look good, and is comfortable enough for work.

This  is one of my favourite outfits to wear to work lately, a jumpsuit like this is great for work, as you can layer so many different tops underneath it, put a jumper over it for cold weather, or bare your arms in warm weather.

OOTD: Pink Champagne

20292107_1562497623817479_579536624_n

Nothing makes me happier than an all pink outfit. Literally nothing. As if it wasn’t glorious enough that this outfit is all colour co-ordinated, all pink, it’s almost entirely all Primark. Yep, I am the bargain queen. This T-shirt was an absolute steal, reduced to just £1.00 (I bought it in blue too, obviously), while the trousers, I believe were about £14.00 but don’t quote me on that. The shoes are my prized possessions because they’re just so damn adorable but since I got them a few months ago I can’t quite remember how much they were, I’m going to guess they were about £12.00. The bralette peaking out from beneath the T-shirt was not Primark I’m afraid, I got it from Pacsun whilst I was in L.A., and I can’t recall the price as apparently money was no object to me while I was there.. Anyway, my point is overall we have a fully colour coordinated outfit for £27.00, where’s my medal please?

3 Outfit Ideas: Girls Weekend

Is anyone else craving a holiday? I know I am, seeing everyone’s holiday pictures all over Instagram and Snapchat is making me green with envy lately, especially as I’ve already had my holiday this year so am not booked to be going abroad anytime soon (sad face). Due to this I’ve been filling my 4 month long summer break with ‘mini breaks’ to get away from work every now and then, and having been on two out of four or five of these ‘mini breaks’ now, I’m starting to get a little bit better at packing for them. I’d tell you the key is to keep it simple, but I simply can’t preach a rule that I can’t stick to myself. So, instead, I’ve put together some of my favourite outfits for a mini break or more specifically a girls weekend, so whether you’re off for a few days in Barcelona (as the entirety of my Instagram feed seems to be at the moment), or a spa break in Bath, hopefully you’ll find something to give you a bit of inspiration.

Option #1:

  1. 20067531_1550097975057444_72689014_n

Top – Accessorize

Skirt – New look

Earrings – Claires

Shoes – Topshop

I love this outfit for exploring a city, the skirt is a pleated midi meaning that you won’t get too sweaty! The top is so pretty with it, very lightweight, and you don’t have to wear a bra with it which is always a bonus. I thought that the earrings were really cute to add an extra ounce of boho to the look, I got them for Coachella in April but never ended up wearing them, I’m determined to make them work for something though! The shoes are definitely for style over sustenance, as they’re a pain to walk around in all day, so I can’t say I would 100% recommend them for a day of walking, but they are very pretty to look at, aren’t they?

20068235_1550097978390777_305342401_n

Top – Topshop

Choker – Re:So Southampton

Shorts – Missguided

Sandals – Primark

This outfit would actually be really cute for a festival, come to think about it I’m pretty sure I wore this exact top and shorts combo to Sziget Festival last year… Anyway, I’m loving yellow this summer and this top is really cute with a little pair of shorts, especially if you’re going to be in hot weather! This is also a really comfortable outfit for walking around in all day, I’ve found that flip flop sandals like these Primark ones actually make for the best kind of walking shoes on holiday because you know they’re not going to give you blisters. This would also look really good with white jeans rather than shorts if you’re going to somewhere not so hot.

20068256_1550098011724107_1115510272_n

Top – Primark

Skirt – Hollister

Hat – Urban Outfitters

Shoes – Primark

I’ve just realised how country western this looks, it wasn’t intentional I promise. But why should that be a bad thing? These Primark boots with cut outs in the back kind of make everything look a bit country western, and to be honest, it’s not something I’ve been hating all that much. I don’t think suede skirts are particularly the ‘trendy’ thing to wear anymore (why do I sound like a mum), but I decided to include this one anyway because I think it’s so cute, and with the off the shoulder top it’s a really nice summer outfit.

Hope you enjoyed and hopefully got a little bit of inspiration! I might *fingers crossed* be off to Prague very soon so look forward to some outfit/travel posts from there!

5 Wardrobe Essentials For This Summer

Summer has arrived in the UK! We’re all so thrilled about it, and with all this shiny new weather is a whole new world of shiny new trends for the new season, so if you’re feeling a tad lost about what to wear, I thought I’d put together 5 wardrobe essentials to get you through the summer. If you buy nothing else for your new season wardrobe, let it be these 5 things!

1. An outspoken floppy hat

994-849s

Next £20

DP11211410_Large_F_1

Dorothy Perkins £12.00

Screen Shot 2017-06-26 at 16.47.36

Asos £12.50

I’ve been umming and ahhing about whether or not to get one of these, I definitely know I want one because duhhh imagine the cute Instagram pictures you could get, but my issue is that I’ve already had my holiday this year, so I don’t really think I’ll have enough opportunity to wear it. Nevertheless, I really love the one from Next that I’ve included above, and have a feeling it could be sneaking into my shopping cart this payday..

2. Soft coloured blazers

oasis_06193407_1.jpg

Oasis £65.00

706912_main

River Island £60.00

2498723620_6_1_1.jpg

Zara £59.99

Soft coloured blazers are such a pretty finish for summer outfits, just pop a delicate cami underneath, and wear with jeans, or my personal favourite, matching coloured cullotte trousers! I’ve just picked up the one featured above from Oasis and it’s so pretty with all of my outfits! Let me know in the comments if you’d like a post on the different ways I style my blazer.

3. Metallic shorts

Screen Shot 2017-06-26 at 17.16.00.png

Boohoo £15.00

CLS4416-3_10.JPG

Pretty Little Thing £12.00

silver-metallic-shredded-denim-shorts.jpg

Missguided £30.00

H&M £12.99

I’m aware that those last ones aren’t really metallic but they’ve been on my to buy list for the longest time now! They’re so cute! Anyway, I ordered the silver Boohoo ones about a month ago and I’m thinking of wearing them to V Fest. I think they’re perfect for a festival because you can make them really casual with a plain black t shirt or a band tee, which is good for British festivals because people aren’t as extra with their outfits here so you don’t really want to go all out, but you still want to have a subtle coolness to your look.

4. Fun embroidered heels

 Screen Shot 2017-06-26 at 17.29.10

Monsoon £59.00

SD_01_T02_0798A_F0_X_EC_90.jpg

Marks & Spencer £35.00

TS32G38LNUD_Zoom_M_1

Topshop £56.00

Again, I’m cheating a little bit with the last ones, embellished rather than embroidered, but I thought I’d include them anyway because I think they’re a great alternative if the embroidered look isn’t for you. These shoes are a great way to make your look more summery for a night out or even just a garden party or barbeque. They’re so gorgeous, how could you possible resist?

5. Slogan tees

MS12A25VWHT_Zoom_M_1.jpg

Miss Selfridge £18.00

hmprod

H&M £8.99

Screen Shot 2017-06-26 at 17.51.32

New Look £9.99

Slogan tees never go out of style, probably because they’re such versatile pieces, you can dress them up or down. Personally I love tees like these to pair with more dressy items to make them more casual for everyday wear, for example layering a t-shirt under a culotte jumpsuit.
